Niagara Falls are the second largest waterfall in the world. It is actually made up of three separate falls that are all close in proximity. The beauty and wonder of this natural phenomenon has become an inspiration for artists and photographers as well as a popular honeymoon and vacation destination.
Legendary stories are told of people who try to go over Niagara Falls in a barrel. Several people who have attempted this daredevil act have lost their lives. The first one to survive was a 63-year-old woman who was a schoolteacher.

  • The word "Niagara" is derived from the Iroquois Indian word "Onguiaahra" meaning "the strait" 
  • Twenty percent of the worlds freshwater lies in the Great Lakes, and most flows over Niagara Falls.
